Signal is popping off

I've been a long-time user of Signal by now, having used it for approximately the past 4-5 years of my life. In that time, I've seen it develop and add new features that people have been asking to be added for years. But, one thing I've noticed: All of these features were added in at most the past 1.5 years.

In other words, in the past 1-1.5 years Signal has REALLY been going in hard on adding new, largely-requested features and expanding their audience, with the consequence being a more feature-complete messenger with even more features - whilst staying private.

It ranges from small things like clearing people up better in the app about scams to huge updates to the infrastructure and internal workings of the App like with Signal Usernames finally making it into production.

It really goes without saying that Signal has been going hard on adding new features left and right that have been requested for years, re-focusing their efforts on different aspects of the app that were previously left uncommented on. And whilst they still aren't super active in the community, once they DO release a feature, it's usually an absolute banger...maybe with the exception of MobileCoin.

My theory is that this has started internally when Meredith Whittaker took the leading role at Signal, at least it would make a lot of sense given the time at which they've ramped up feature-focused efforts is about the same time Meredith took that role

Either way, I'm excited for the future of Signal going forward, let's see where they go next...maybe Cloud Backups?
